trekking in Aru

As mentioned above, Aru Village works as a base camp for trekkers who are delighted to arrive here. The treks take the tourists to the:
1.    Kolahoi Glacier,
2.    Tarsar-Marsar lakes, and
3.    Katrinag Valley.
Similarly, it is also a base for the treks to:
4.    Lidderwat, and
5.    Kangan.
The Kolahoi Glacier is the largest in the entire Kashmir Valley, and is located near Mt. Kolahoi (5,425m), which also is the highest peak in the Valley. A number of hotels, restaurants and huts are available for boarding and lodging.

Preferred Trekking Route
Trekkers usually treat Liddarwat as their base camp and venture out to Kolahai Glacier, which is just 7 km away via Satlangam, another 9 km away. Then to Alapat Sar Lake via Royal Valley, Tarsar Lake via Sakiwas or divert towards Jagimarg to reach Sonamus Pass.

Aru Valley has many options for trekking and it spoils the tourists. Deciding which one should be taken for maximum coverage and sightseeing is slightly difficult. Another trekking route from Aru Valley is:
1.    Katarnag Lake, 12 km away standing tall at 43300 m via Green Top, or to
2.    Hirbagwan Lake, 10 km away via the Armun Valley, 13 km away.

Only for Daredevils
Marsar Lake trek is quite difficult and only the brave hearts should think of going there as you have to cross a 243 m high ridge to reach there. Only those who can answer this question positively should proceed ahead.

Duration of The Various Treks starting at Aru Valley
1.    The Aru Valley - Kolahoi Glacier treks takes about 7 days to complete and and covers about 70 km. While on the Kolahoi glacier the trekkers can see the Kolahoi Peak and origin of Lidder River.

Further the trek moves to Kolahoi glacier or Kolahoi peak, and day 4 part ends. The other section starts from Langen and reaches the Dodsar Lake.
