Water Rafting in Aru

Tourists can always indulge in pure awesomeness in the rivers flowing in and around Pahalgam by rafting in its gentle gradients. The simple 2km stretch on the Aru branch of Lidder River is the most popular rafting spot in Pahalgam. In Pahalgam, white river rafting generally takes off in the month of June.

The lidder river (Lidder means turmeric) originates from Mt Kolahoi glacier and Shehnag lake etc. flows from North West to south east as a great delight through Pahalgam into river Jhelum, one of the five rivers of Punjab which join ultimately Indus.

The twisty Lidder River which originates from the Mount Kolahoi Glacier and Sheshnag Lake, poses different kinds of challenges from that of the Rocky Mountains to over looking the land. The rafting is organised at the upper region of Lidder where water rushes on and thus appears frothy and icy. Whitewater rafting is another unique way to see the Pahalgam valley all in one. The route the river traverses brings all the glimpses within easy reach. It cuts through a complicated network of gorges, forests, mountainous ranges and poses tough challenge for the riders.
Rafting Course of Varying Difficulty
Rafting facilities exist for beginners, intermediates and experienced personnel. Only when water level in the river is sufficient white water rafting is allowed. Though life jackets are on every participant, some basic swimming techniques should be known so that in case the raft capsizes, before some help could be arranged, the participant should not be afraid of drowning and can stay afloat on their own. River rafting courses have varying levels of difficulty and they are graded accordingly.
