About Bandipur

Bandipur is a breathing museum of Newari culture. The winding lanes of Bandipur are lined with tall Newari houses. Derelict buildings have been renewed as cafes and lodges, and civic buildings and temples have been pulled back from the edge of ruin. With its magnificent 18th-century architecture, lack of motorized vehicles and restaurant tables set out on the bazaar, Bandipur has a distinct European feel. The little known village of Bandipur is a lovely retreat from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. The village is across the valley from the Himalayas, offering amazing sunrises and sunsets. The village is not flooded by tourists or galling vendors, thus it is a joy to pass peaceful days exploring the hills around Bandipur. It offers splendid Himalayan views and the countryside is a gorgeous patchwork of terraced rice, mustard fields and small orchards. One of the most popular walks is to the Magar village of Ramkot. The scenic 4 hour walk takes you to this friendly little village where there are some traditional round houses. You can enjoy a picnic under the two banyan trees atop the hill, with a great Himalayan backdrop. Besides hiking and trekking, adventure junkies can also enjoy Paragliding while in Bandipur.
