Sui Mata Mela
Sui Mata Mela has a legendary story attached to it dating back to the times of Raja Sahil Varman who built Chamba Town and in turn his wife had to sacrifice her life to prevent any wrath from the Brahmins who inhibited this land. Since then on the sacrifice of the queen, Sui Mata Festival is celebrated every year for four days during the month of March-April. The festival is celebrated by offering the freshly harvested crop, Maize to the presiding deities of Chamba and by paying their homage to the queen. The 4-day festival is marked by colourful traditional clothes, dance and songs, etc.
Minjar Mela
Minjar Mela is celebrated during the months of July-August, and is the major festival of Himachal. The entire state participates in it with great zeal and enthusiasm. The fair begins with flag hosting at the Chaugan and proceeds with costume dances, sports and cultural programmes. Various stalls can be seen around. The third day of the festival is marked with the idols of deities parading around the city and people offer their prayers to them. Mijar is declared a state festival by Government of Himachal and is surely a festival not to be missed.
