About Champhai

Known as ‘The Rice Bowl’ of Mizoram, Champhai is located about 1700 meters above sea level. It gives a beautiful view of Myanmar Hills and given that it is located on the Indo-Myanmar border, Champhai is rapidly gaining popularity and is being known as the business hub of Myanmar. Champhai has moderate climate throughout the year and thus a suitable destination to travel across seasons.

EVENTS/FESTIVALS

Chapchar Kut Apart from the usual festivals celebrated across India, Mizos being the agrarian people celebrate mostly the agrarian festivals linked to their harvesting period. Chapchar Kut is celebrated in the month of February; right after the jungle has been cleared for crop cultivation. People pray for a good crop and celebrate with drums, gongs, etc. Mim Kut This festival is celebrated in the month of September right when the crop has been harvested. Pawl Kut After the harvest is sold in the market and the farmers are preparing for the new harvest season, Mizos celebrate Pawan Kut to express gratitude the Gods for the previous good harvesting year. This is the biggest festival of Mizoram and is celebrated in the month of December/January with much fan fare, feasting and fun.

SHOPPING AREA

Bara Bazar It is the famous flea market of Aizawl and the main shopping centre for everyone. One can find from anything to everything here. The Zion Street market inside this place is a stop for ones shopping for clothes, foot wears, etc. New Market Just before the Bara Bazar starts, the New Market is a road side market spread wide across the road and full with stuff like clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, etc. Millenium Mall It is the one and only mall in Aizawl, constructed recently. This multi-storyed mall is good place to shop for brands and handicrafts.
