Places to Visit in Champhai Mizoram

  • Established in 1991, the Murlen National Park is spread across an area of about 200 sq. km. on the sub-tropical evergreen forest land. It is home to hoolock gibbon, Himalayan black bear, leopard, tiger and many other wild animals too.
  • Rih Dil is a ‘heart-shaped’ lake 1 km long and 70 meter wide. It is believed to be the place where eternal souls meet. Tourists can take the permission to visit this lake from Deputy Commissioner’s office at Champhai.
  • Situated in the promixity of Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Myanmar borders, Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 120 sq. km. it was established in 1999 and is home to animals like leopard, rhesus macaque, wild boars, goral, barking deer and tiger.
  • Lamsui Puk Cave is believed to have legendary connections with the inhabitants of Champhai. It is believed that a huge fight held in this cave between the two adjacent villages around this cave and later a lot of skeletons of the soldiers were dug out of this cave.
  • Lengteng Hills are located at 2300 meters above sea level and is one of the famous destinations for trekkers and picnic planners. It gives a mesmerising view of the city. Lenteng Hills are surrounded by dense forests and houses wild animals and plants.
  • Mura Puk is the largest cave situated 10 kms away from Champhal. It has six caves inside it which has legendary stories attached to it. Legends say that villagers used to hide in this cave from an eagle named ‘Mura’ who was a man-eater.
  • Mangakhaia Lung is a big memorable stone erected in 1700 AD in the memory of the Mangakhaia, a popular chief of the Ralte tribe. This 5 meter high stone has human engravings on it which are believed to be the guardians of dead. This is located on the Indo-Myanmar border.
