Best Time to Visit

Dehradun is an all time destination. Many people avoid the rainy season because the plains get slushy but the misty atmosphere because of nearby mountains is an experience in itself. Winter season also brings some positives and those who can withstand cold, definitely flock to all hill stations.
Dehradun is a perennially soothing retreat, which can always be visited throughout the year. Summers sees an inordinately cool climate, even when nearby cities are going through the scorching rough patch. Monsoon and autumn season are also worth visiting, but winters are not exactly the season advisable for a visit unless you love the extra chilled plains.

EVENTS/FESTIVALS

The Jhanda Fair

The popular festival is celebrated with umpteen richness and vigor on the fifth day following the festival of Holi. The fair is in honor of revered Guru Ram Rai who came to Dehradun in year of 1699 and built Gurudwara by name Guru Ram Rai Durbar. Guru Ji raised the flag on the Gurdwara, amid huge fan following and lot of ceremony at the Jhanda Chowk of Dehradun.

The Shivratri fair


This famous Hindu festival is celebrated with immense piety in compound of The Tapkeshwar temple. On the occasion, thousands of believers of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati amass at the temple compound and pay their offering with all their heart.

The Lakhawar Fair


The Lakhawar Fair is amazing and prevalent festival, celebrated in Dehradun in the months of September and October. Marking the fair are dance performances, sports competitions, alongside plenty of music and gaiety. The Lakhawar Fair is attended by denizens and foreign tourists in amazing numbers.

 
 

SHOPPING AREA

Clock Tower, Rajpur Road Clock Tower, located along the road connecting to Rajpur Road is the principal shopping area. The area around it is throbbing with shops, selling brassware, jewelry and woolens.
