About Dhanaulti

Dhanaulti is a hill station located between the popular tourist locations of Mussoorie and Chamba, located at a distance of approximately 25 km and 30 km from each respectively, in the Tehri District of Indian state of Uttarakhand, on the Mussoorie Chamba Road. Perched at an altitude of 2286 m, it is an ideal hideout if what one seeks is quiet serenity and dense woods of alpine. The scenic beauty of the landscape assumes a different shade with each change in the weather, and one can catch a breathtaking view of a snow covered valley if they come at the right time, and an equally exquisite sight, namely that of the Gangotri Yamunotri glaciers at others.

Best Time to Visit

Dhanaulti is an all year round tourist destination. Monsoon season is avoidable as ranks often trigger landslides. Other than that, rainy season is perfect for couples as the mist creates romantic moods.

The normal temperatures soar to 37 degrees in summers and drop to 1 -7 degrees in winters.

EVENTS/FESTIVALS

Events and festivals in Dhanaulti include the Surkhananda Devi Fair that is held on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra. This celebration is held at the Surkhanda Devi Temple and is dedicated to the much-revered Goddess Durga. OTher festivals celebrated in this place are Holi and Diwali.

SHOPPING AREA

One finds some rather beautiful shawls, scarves and stoles produced locally in Dhanaulti, which are made from entirely natural wool and dyes. Eri silk and Pashmina clothing from Himalayan Weavers is an immensely popular item to shop for when visiting Dhanaulti.
