Located in the Baramula District of Jammu & Kashmir and situated at a height of 2730 meters above sea level, Gulmarg is one of the most popular destinations in Kashmir. The original name of Gulmarg was 'Gaurimarg', named after the wife of Lord Shiva; however one of the Indian Kings, Yousuf Shah Chak changed to 'Gulmarg'. Gulmarg is the only skiing resort in Asia with slope heights ranging from 8,700 feet to 10,500 feet. Gulmarg also has the world’s highest 18 hole green golf courses. The best time to visit Gulmarg is during the month of May to September, when the climate is pleasant compared to winters when the temperature goes down to -170 C
