About Haflong

A production center for pineapple and oranges Haflong is also known as white ant hillock. Famous for its beautiful hills, landscapes, valleys and mountains, at 680 meters, it is popular among campers and nature enthusiasts.

Located 310 km from Guwahati, it is famous for its lakeside resorts, trekking and paragliding options.  The Haflong Lake is one of the largest natural water bodies in Assam, and is situated in the heart of the town.


How to Reach

By Air
Nearest airport is Silchar, 47 kilometers away. Taxis are available for further destination.

By Rail
Haflong has its own railway station.

By Road
No direct approach to national road network. Tourists need to travel up to Silchar (47 km) and then to proceed easily to anywhere.

EVENTS/FESTIVALS

Behdeinkhlam Festival: One of the most important and colourful festivals in the state of Assam, Behdeinkhlam Festival is held for three days during the month of July at Jowai. The meaning of the festival signifies 'driving away of evil by wooden sticks'. It is connected with a sequence of religious rituals. People dance on the streets and promote friendship and unity among each other by beating drums and playing pipes.
 
Laho Dance: The local people of the district have another amusing dance festival called the Laho dance. Both males and females takes part in this dance festival, usually two young men on either side of a girl, connecting arms together, dance merrily in step.
 
Chad Sukra :This festival is celebrated during the mid of April or early May every year by the Haflong Hills people. The locals of the state believe that a farmer can start sowing the seeds on his land after the completion of this festival. The festival is observed as to safeguard the crops of farmers from all forms of the natural calamity.

SHOPPING AREA

Haflong offers a wide variety of wooden handicrafts among which, bamboo and cane products are quite popular. Haflong is a known production centre for silk textiles.
