Places to Visit in Itanagar Arunachal Pradesh

  • The city gained its name from this site, Ita Fort. It was constructed by Ahom rulers between the 14th- 15th century over an area of 13 sq. kms and it took about 8 million bricks and 45000 around the clock working days to complete its construction. The structure has three gates; one of the eastern, one on the western and one on the southern side. This ‘fort of bricks’ believed to constructed under the Jitri Dynasty under the Mayapur of Ramachandra is the prime tourist attraction of Itanagar
  • Established in 1980 by the Itanagar Government, the Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum has kept intact the culture of tribal life along with their wooden art work, handicrafts and literature. Tourist can also purchase souvenirs and art works from the workshop in the museum.
  • Located in Changlang District adjoining the border of Myanmar, Namdhapa National Park is one of the natural reserves in Arunachal Pradesh. Surrounded by snow hugged Himalayan peaks, this national park is home to diverse species of flora and fauna. Several recreational activities can be planned here too.
  • Situated at Buddha Vihar surrounded by dense woods and mountains in the backdrop, the sight to Buddha Temple at Itanagar is a scenic beauty. The yellow tomb of this shrine makes it a prominent monument from various places. This temple was blessed by Dalai Lama, and has a sculpture of Lord Buddha in a meditating position which is the foremost tourist fascination
  • It is one of the most sought after tourist places in Itanagar for nature lovers. Surrounded by four different rivers; Pam River in the East, Pachin in the South, Neorochi on the North-East and Chingke stream in the North, The Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to some most contrasting species living together and seasonal birds flying in and making nests. Tourists can see the massive spread of lush green forests and various species of flora and fauna among it
  • Named after the river considered most pure, Ganga, Ganga Lake was created by State authorities as a tourist attraction. Although the color of the lake is green however, it is still considered to be pure and many stories revolve around about how it gained its green color. It is one of the most famous tourist spots in Itanagar for it is very clean and is surrounded by lush green mountains on all sides, and also because the climate around this lake is very pleasant making it a picnic spot
  • Located at the top of the ridge at Naharlagun, Polo Park is one of the famous tourist attractions of Itanagar. It not oly houses various varieties of Flora, but also has a mini zoo with reptiles, guinea pig, rabbits and many more. It is a good place to relax with nature
