About Kanatal

Kanatal is a small village located in the state of Uttarakhand. It is named after a lake, Kanatal. It is surrounded by majestic hills as well as some famous hill stations like Chamba, Mussoorie and many others. Kanatal is a nature lover’s delight located amidst a peaceful and quiet environment. It is close to Mussoorie which is more famous with travelers and thus, very few people know about this quiet heaven. Kanatal mainly serves as a weekend getaway. Unlike many other hill stations it is well-connected by roads to various major cities like Delhi, Haridwar and Dehradun. It can be visited anytime throughout the year as the place has a pleasant climate all year round. It is ideal for picnics under the mild warmth of the Sun, natural beauty and fresh air. Besides sightseeing you can hire a pony and enjoy the sights on the pony. There are several places that you can visit in Kanatal – one is the Surkhanda temple, which is a popular religious destination.You can enjoy a walk through the lush meadows and the famous Kodia jungle. It is a dense forest area located at a distance of around 1 km from Kanatal. At times you can even spot a few wild animals by taking a ride through the jungle in a jeep, and see the natural springs, that are quite rampant in the area.

By Air

Nearest airport is Jolly Grant at Dehradun, 92 kilometers away. Buses & taxis are available for Kanatal easily.

By Rail

Nearest railhead is Dehradun, 85 kilometers away whereas Rishikesh is 75 kilometers away! Buses & Taxis are available conveniently.

By Road

Kanatal is properly connected with almost all major cities in India.

Best Time to Visit

 Kanatal can be visited depending on your preferences. Summers have the maximum rush as people from hot climates throng these hill stations. Monsoons are not advisable. Winter season is ideal for sightseeing and for winter adventure sports.

Kanatal is so good, it can be visited throughout the year. There is something magical about this place as no matter when you travel here. Summers are very pleasant when the day temperature tends to be friendly warm and hovers around 28 degrees. Winter almost always sees snowfall but again the temperature rarely goes below 3 degrees. The monsoon is heavy and it washes all plants and trees in the vicinity and brings out the attractive gleaming leaves.
