Places to Visit in Nainital Uttarakhand

  • Situated at an altitude of 7450 ft and is reachable by Cable Car. It offers a magnificent view of the ethereal snow capped Himalayas. One can take a look at the some of the highest Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot from this point.
  • A pear shaped lake surrounded by mountains, it is the most significant lake of the district. The area is known by the name of this lake. This site attracts tourists for leisurely walks along the bank and boating. The northern end of the 1400m long lake is called Mallital and the southern end is called Tallital.
  • Bhimtal is the largest lake of the area, named after the strongest of the Pandava brothers, Bhim – who was known for his unparalleled strength
  • Sattal meaning seven lakes is a cluster of small lakes within an oak forest. Three of the lakes are interconnected. Sattal is located at a lower altitude and offers a great site for camping.
  • literally the nine cornered lake, it is the deepest lake in the area. Relatively unexplored, this area has enthralling experiences for camping and tracking.
  • It is a must visit spot for all devout Hindus. The spot where Goddess Sati's eyes fell came to be called Nain-tal or lake of the eye. The goddess Sati or Shakti is worshipped at the Naina Devi Temple on the north shore of the lake. The presiding deity of the temple is Maa Naina Devi represented by two Netras or eyes.
  • One of the two high altitude Zoos in India, this zoo houses a wide variety of pheasants and endangered mountain animals like Siberian Tiger, Snow Leopard, Goat Antelope-Ghooral and many more. The animals are housed keeping in mind the altitudes of their natural habitat.
