About Palampur

Palampur is one of the most beautiful towns of Himachal Pradesh and one of the coolest places to live too. Situated at Kangra Valley at a height of 1220 meters above sea level, Palampur is famous among nature lovers for its scenic beauty of pine trees, green meadows and snow covered mountain peaks. Palampur got its name from the local word ‘Pulum’ which means abundance of water, which defines Palampur. In 1849, Dr. Jameson, Superintendent of Botanical Garden introduced a tea bush from Almora on this land and it survived yielding good results. Since then Palampur is known as the Tea Copunty of Himachal and is counted amongst the states having largest tea productions. Palampur offer many sport and adventure activities ranging like snow hiking, mount climbing, trekking, etc., thus the best time to visit Palampur is during winters.

By Air
The nearest airport is Gaggal airport in Kangra - 30kms away,
By Rail
The closest railway station is located at Maranda, about 2 kms from Palampur.
However Palampur is connected by narrow gauge railway from Pathankot, located about 115 kms away!
By Road
Palampur is easily accessible by road and well connected to Dharmsala 40 kms,  240 kms from Chandigarh and almost 600 kms from Delhi.

Best Time to Visit

Palampur has a very mild climate and it remains so for the whole year. Palampur can be visited any time of the year and its close proximity to cities means tourists can safely either track back or switch to a different location.
