Places to Visit in Panhala Mahrashtra

  • Constructed in the 1008 AD by Muslims, this relates a very interesting story. The place was known as a refuge and escape for Maratha ruler Shivaji.
  • The Ambarkhana was envisaged and constructed by Marathas and it is home to palace, the administrative division and the magnificent granary. The purpose behind constructing granaries was to serve the store house in case of famines and other calamities.
  • The temple is devoted to goddess Amba Devi. The goddess is revered by local people. The goddess is source of life for them.
  • With a perimeter of 14 kilometers, it stands at a height of over 2,700 feet. The sheer number of tourists flock here shows its popularity and importance.

  • Panhala Fort offers the perfect sunset viewing point. A distant fort in the line of view completes the magical view and shutterbugs try their best to capture the offering.

  • The place provides a clear glimpse into warfare strategies used by Marathas, and how those strategies were used for deceiving enemies.
  • The caves are a pious place in Maharashtra where supposedly Parashar Rishi lived and meditated. A Marathi poet Moropant also stayed here and wrote all of his text.
