Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya at an altitude of about 1500 meters is referred to as ‘Scotland of the East’ for it reminded the Britishers of Scotland through its waterfalls and mountains. Shillong remained as capital of Assam till the state was divided and Meghalaya was formed in the year 1972. It is celebrated in the month of November, mostly by Garo tribes and is regarded as the ‘100 drum festival’. Wangala Festival is celebrated to rejoice the new harvest of the year and is dedicated to deity Misi Saljong. The celebration goes on from two-three days to sometimes till a week.
Shad Suk Mynsieum Festival
Celebrated in the month of April, Shad Suk Mynsieum Festival is prime to the Khasi Tribe. It is an annual thanksgiving celebration b y the Khasi tribe which goes on for approximately two-three days.
Celebrated during the month of November for five days, this festival is observed to please all Gods for having a good harvest season. During this festival the goats are sacrificed at the Shillong Peak and offered to the ruliung clan of Shillong.
