Patnitop is one of the famous tourist and adventure destinations in Jammu & Kashmir. Falling under the Udhampur district, Patnitop is located 35 kms from Udhampur on road connecting Udhampur to Srinagar. It is located at about 2,024 meters above the sea level and is one of most famous picnic spots too. Although not much of the old records of Patnitop’s existence are available, however a 600 year old ‘Nag Temple’ does hint on inhabitation during that time. Patnitop is believed to have derived its name from ‘Patan da Talab’ or ‘Pond of Princess’. Some part of this pond still exists near the local youth hostel. Every year a lot of trekking teams and excursions are planned from Patnitop to Amarnath Temple, Vaishno Devi and many other destinations.

Being the second most visited pilgrimage destination, VAISHNO Devi is well connected with other states and is equipped structurally to maintain tourists’ comfort. Given the high altitude, Vaishno Devi mostly has a cold weather around the year; however, summers are still better with temperature from 50 to 400 Celsius in contrast to temperature in winters from 00 to -240 Celsius. It is advised that visit to Vaishno Devi should be planned in the season of summer with no rainfall thereby ensuring a safer trip.
