Dalhousie

Dalhousie is one of the most beautiful destinations in Himachal Pradesh set on five distinct hills; Kathlog, Porteyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun spread over an area of 13 sq. km. These 5 hills are part of the Dhauladhar range. These hills came under the Raja of Chamba during the British era, however, British were extremely enticed by the place and wanted to build a hospital in this place. In 1853, Raja handed over the four hills except the Balun Hill to the British Empire on which a Sanatorium was build which was named after the then Governor General of India, Lord Dalhousie.

Eventually the British acquired the fifth hill, Balun, in 1866. Although the weather in Dalhousie is very cold during winters, but those who wish to enjoy activities should plan their trip in winters. The rest may enjoy the tour best during summers.

Dalhousie is good for all year long. It depends on what you are looking for when visiting. Summers are pretty cool and winter is not too harsh but it snows in January. Winters is a lean season here and most hotels offer good discounts.

Dalhousie is better explored from the months of March-June. The snow, if any, has melted and its brilliance can be seen when the rays of sun hit the higher reaches of snow-capped mountains and pastures. The weather is very pleasant now, and you can experience the chills in March and April and the temperature begins to rise from the month of June. Rainfalls often disturb the strolling paths and few couples can be seen walking together. Winters are also not on the harsher side and it snows only sparingly.
