Patnitop is one of the famous tourist and adventure destinations in Jammu & Kashmir. Falling under the Udhampur district, Patnitop is located 35 kms from Udhampur on road connecting Udhampur to Srinagar. It is located at about 2,024 meters above the sea level and is one of most famous picnic spots too. Although not much of the old records of Patnitop’s existence are available, however a 600 year old ‘Nag Temple’ does hint on inhabitation during that time. Patnitop is believed to have derived its name from ‘Patan da Talab’ or ‘Pond of Princess’. Some part of this pond still exists near the local youth hostel. Every year a lot of trekking teams and excursions are planned from Patnitop to Amarnath Temple, Vaishno Devi and many other destinations.
Just a couple of hours drive from Jammu, Patnitop is not fully discovered by the tourists. It is one of the most mesmerizing hill destinations and is essentially a year-round destination due to its incredible weather. However, the best time to visit this amazing place really depends upon a tourist’s individual tastes and preferences.
Patnitop’s summer season lies between May to June. The temperatures vary from 10 to 40 degrees. During the day cotton clothes are comfortable whereas for the nights light woolen garments are preferable.
This is the best time visit as the weather is the most inviting and one can forget the summer heat. Tourists often land here for paragliding and other aero sports. Golf enthusiasts can visit the nearby Sanasar
